Joy Tan

Joy Tan is an emerging writer and director based in Los Angeles. A proud alumna of the USC MFA Film Production program, Joy has established herself as a versatile storyteller with a keen eye for human connections. With thirteen short films under her belt, she has demonstrated a remarkable ability to explore the intricacies of family dynamics and intimate relationships, all while infusing her work with a humanistic touch that resonates with audiences far and wide.
 

In addition to her academic achievements, Joy further honed her craft by attending the prestigious 2023 Apichatpong Creator’s Lab in Mexico, where she immersed herself in an environment of creativity and collaboration. Her dedication to storytelling has garnered recognition, with "The Invisible Woman" earning selection for the Emerging Lens Cultural Film Festival, “Take A Photograph" being showcased at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival and LA shorts international film festival.


Beyond her filmmaking pursuits, Joy finds inspiration in the natural world, delights in the companionship of cats, and holds a profound appreciation for the art of filmmaking itself. With a passion for exploring gender-related topics, particularly those centered on women, Joy continues to push boundaries and challenge societal norms through her thought-provoking narratives.


Driven by a desire to connect with audiences on a deeper level, Joy Tan is committed to using her platform to amplify diverse voices and shed light on the human experience. Through her storytelling prowess and unwavering dedication to her craft, she remains a rising force in the world of cinema, captivating audiences with her unique perspective and insightful exploration of the human condition.
